Minimum FAA Requirements for Private Pilot Certificate:
- Be at least 17 years of age.
- Pass the required FAA knowledge test.
- Obtain a Student Pilot/3rd Class Medical Certificate before you solo
Aeronautical Experience
- 40 hours total time:
o 20 hours from authorized instructor
§ 3 hours cross- country
§ 3 hours of night flight training
§ 3 hours of instrument flight training
§ 3 hours of training in preparation for the practical test
o 10 Hours of solo flight time
§ 5 hours of solo cross- country
Realistically, it takes most people around 50 to 60 hours to be ready for their FAA Checkride and written Exam (knowledge test). The faster you can do your training the better your learning curve will be and the faster you can get through your objectives.
- Estimated Cost:
§ Airplane: $100/hr at 40-60 hrs. = $4,000.00-$6,000.00
§ 10hr Block: $95/hr @ 40-60 hrs. = $3,800.00-$5,700.00
§ Instructor: $30-35/hr @ 20 hrs. = $600.00-700.00
§ Renters Insurance = $630 or more per year
§ Total: $4400.00-$6,400.00 *
